This article was written to define a phrase both literally and figuratively. The phrase is spending smart. Spending smart is a philosophy for achieving financial security without depriving yourself. It is not a cheapskate plan. It is about spending on things you are buying everyday in a smarter way. You have to learn you cannot out earn dumb spending. Just take a look at all of the millionaire celebrities, professional athletes, and even the lottery winners who are now broke.
Spending smart redirect money to things that you truly care about and tries to plug the leaks of wasteful spending. Spending smart can work in every part of your money life. It can mean the difference between struggling and living rich, it is so powerful.
Now more than ever, with the meltdown of the banking and financial systems, spending smart is every important with credit so hard to get, the stock and bond markets tanked, and comsumers clamping down on spending. Frugality, all of the sudden, was necessary, not only hip and cool.
And with all of that, we have product marketing coming at us more then ever before, on the tv, newspaper, magazines, radio, internet, and billboards. With all of the enticements to buy stuff it is very hard to say no, but that is exactly what we have to do. We would go flat broke in no time if we didn’t say no. Saying no dozens of times a day can make us become weak, weary, and vulnerable consumers.
And to help the advertisers, we also have more credit available to us like never before. Remember a time where having no money meant no spending? Not nowadays. Nowadays you can charge it now and pay for it forever. Now it is even hard to say no to spending.
Making good decisions when saying yes to spending is spending smart. It is about squeezing more value from the money you are spending, and not always spending less. It is about liberation, not deprivation.
